Local Guides is a program by google maps , through which users of maps can volunteer to add local data in maps so that it is win -win scenario for both parties .

In this blog I am going to run you through step by step process of how to host a local guides meetup

Once you open the above link you will see a landing page like this
Once the landing page is loaded you can either search for a local guide meetup if there is any in your locality by entering your region in the Tab .
To host a meetup click on Host meetup button
Before you host a meetup make your you tick these points
1.Make sure you have a plan (Theme) for the meetups
Example : Local guides clean the world
Lets map green
2.Make a banner of size 1030 * 350 pixels
3.Decide the place of the meetup
4. Decide the date and time for the meetup
Once you are ready with your plan , click on Add photo to add the banner .

Next step is Name your meetup here are few tips
1.Remember to name your meetup inline with the theme .
2.Do not add a lengthy name , be crisp and on the point
Next step is select the type of meetup
There are 4 major types of meetups
1. Food Crawl ( Exploring Food places)
2.Photo Walk ( Exploring the neighborhood to capture photos)
3.Geo Walk ( Exploring Geographical or historical places)4. Map Edit ( Editing basic info about local places in maps)
Once your meetup type is selected , next step is adding the description .
Describe the meetup in best possible way , let the people who might take join know what to expect from the day , whether it is cost free or people have to arrange for some expenses , list of things you want the local guides to carry like the water bottle .
Description must be small and to the point .
Now comes the important details
1. Add the location of the meetup
2. Start time and end time
3. Maximum number of people who can attend
Once all the details are entered , cross check all the details before submitting
Once submitted , meetup request will go to google validation , approval might take up to 24 to 48 hours
